Event Overview for Badger State Pullers in Oshkosh on Friday Aug 10th, 2012

My first time announcing in Oshkosh. It is a race track facility, I got to announce from an amazing announcers booth last night. This is part of the Winnebago County Fair, huge grandstands plum full, they told me 5000 people fill the grandstands. I think you pay to get into the fair and the grandstand is free, so that is plus for the fans, I know fairs are trying different things. I was told they have a huge crowd every year.

Again I am going off memory, so the results may not be exact, but close.

We ran two tracks-Ludtke Red on the Pit Side, Ludtke Yellow on the grandstand. Oshkosh had received 3 inches of rain Wed and Thurs, so they had to scrape alot of the top clay off, still had a decent track, got hard at the end LLSS and Lim Pro, just overpowered it, but they all had to pull on the same track.

First Classes-Pit Side PI Hot Farm-3000 RPM 640 2.75×3 turbo, 10 in the class Gene Larsen from Baraboo with the Binder Grinder won it. Grandstand Side Pro Street Diesel 6 in the class Jared Ripp won it with the last hook in the class at 352 with the last hook, the crowd went wild. I think Midnight Fury was second at 327 second to last hook, James Steindorf was at 313 he was the first hook, Mike Strobel was 311 first time I have seen his truck with duals on the back. Not sure about the other 2 trucks.

Next up on the Pit Side was Badger State Hot Farm 18 in the class-Mike Meier-Double Trouble won it at 326, Alan Paulson Deere Addiction was 325, Lee Ruf was at 324, 6 tractors in the 320-322 range. Good class, Loofboro Tractor Jus Fueling around couldn’t it in gear or out of gear, not sure, but didn’t leave the line. Pretty sure Tony McDonald-Well Spent burnt a piston, he finished last, he had the points lead heading in, pretty big margin, but Dave Baker got 4th last night at 323 so I think they are basically tied for the points lead now.

Next up on the Grandstand Side 4×4 SS Trucks-great class of 15, saw a lot of trucks I have never seen before, good class fans liked them a lot. Mike Derr from Johnson Creek with his bright orange (love that color) 04 Chevy won at 335, Brian Breister from Fond Du Lac with the Evolution truck was 334, and Jeff Rivers took third at 333 with Aftershock, I think Two gusn-klatt finished 4th.

Next up on Pit Side was LLSS 8 or 9 in the class track was getting hard, they didn’t hook up that well, it was a cool evening by now, Ed Kasper-Addicted to Chaos was second hook he won at 306, Aaron Kleckler Double Vision was second at 303 he was first hook, I think Lil Green Giant was third at 301, everyone else was in the 290’s except for Gene Weerda who went for a wild ride doing his best impression of the one rear wheel walk, but he is ok, just looked bad…

Next up on Grand Stand was 2wd Mod Terry Timmerman laid down the winning pass at 327 with Hot N Nasty-crowd went wild, nothing better than hearing 5000 fans cheering in unison gives me goosebumps

Pit side final class was Lim Pro-Scott Olson won with the 1206 at 318, Kathy Gallitz Runnin Red Hot was 316, Jake Luther 313 and change, Elsing Thunder Clutch 313 and less change than Tool Time, then G Force at 311 and Runnin n Red Tom Gallitz at 311 also.

Good show, fans enjoyed it, heading to Hillsboro Tonight. Pull starts at 6pm, Rodney Crum did live results last night at powerandnoisephotoe.com, so if you want to see what kinda numbers are in store in Hillsboro check it out, they are running the same classes again tonight. My favorite Hurricane Allis got 5th out of 19th last night in Prostock, I am heading up a little early, going to work on Elvin (maybe get him drinking some beers so I can drive Hurricane Allis tonight, hey we can dream can’t we) I know Bryce VanGenderen wants me to bring him some cheese and butter today.

I am announcing in G a y s Mills tomorrow for Tri State pull starts at Noon.

Thanks to everyone who made Churning Dirt A Success!

Thank you to all the fans, pullers and volunteers. It was great to see the huge amount of fans, especially Saturday night. (over 4000 Saturday night) We had the best track we have ever had, the best competitors, great sled operators, track officials, everything was great and everyone worked together. In the lim pro class Sat night, we had pullers from 5 different states. We are proud of the show we put on for the fans and the pullers.

Results are up on some websites below and I will get the churning dirt open classes up soon, just trying to catch up today.

If you had a great time this year, be sure to spread the word for next year. Thanks again, this is our dream to have a event to be proud of in Richland Center, WI.

How We Do,,,,,What We Do,,,,and some ideas that never see the light of day.

Here at Hybrid Redneck we feel like 10 year-olds on Christmas Eve,,,just waiting,,,waiting,,,holy crap can’t that clock move a little faster,,,,for the first pull on Friday night, one week from today when Churning Dirt Nationals kicks off. Then the Demo Devil will light it up, and a few minutes later Charm School Rejects will kick it in to gear, DANG IT!! Next Friday can not come soon enough!

So I have to do something to burn some time here as we wait. One of the more interesting questions that we have heard the past couple of days has been, “How the heck do you guys come up with what you do,,,really,,,who comes up with Camel Racing”. The answer to that is pretty scientific, see we take the attendance figures from the past year, multiply that by the number of comments that are positive regarding the different events, divide that by the amount of beer sold, and that gives us,,,well,,,that doesn’t give us much of anything actually. I would like to tell you that we have a specific, measured, and pre-determined way to set up events that are sure to thrill. But it is much easier than that, and we are much more proud of the way we do make changes and add events because it is simple, we listen to you, the crowd.

From Motorsports Mayhem, we heard, “add more concessions”,,,so for Churning Dirt we have. From past events we heard, “man I wish you had something after the pulls”, so we have added live music from two of the most powerful and energetic groups you will see in a long time, from this past spring we heard “Bring back the Demo Devil,,,so gladly we have, and finally,,,, we had a clamoring for Camel Races,,,so we added live, authentic, honest-to-goodness, as my mother is my witness, high-speed Camel Racing. (well not too many people were clamoring for it, but darn it we like to push the envelope and add things that we would like to see too, (and apparently others want to see as well).

We also have some ideas that don’t ever see the light of day,,,thankfully,,,and below are a few of those:

Churning Dirt Themed Ice Creme:
We half-way thought maybe this could make the cut,,,,,until we had the discussion of ice cream names and types:

“Pedal Pullers Prunes”
, no one would try it, well that was until Wade Sanders showed up and he will try anything,,,,,that was a week ago and he hasn’t been back to work since. None of the rest of us know what it tastes like and we don’t care either.

“Demo Devil Dangleberry”, yes, Dangleberry is actually a fruit as it turns out and because there are some that will doubt me,,,,look it up:  http://www.duke.edu/~cwcook/trees/gafr.htmlDangleberry (Gaylussacia frondosa)

I am still not going to try that one either. There were other ice cream types that we sampled, but I can’t share the descriptions with you on a family friendly website,,,I mean really, even Demo Devil Dangleberry was pushing the envelope.

Churning Dirt Flea Market and Swap Meet

On first blush this might sound like a really good idea,,,and yeah,,we even tried it with a test group. People, for a small booth fee, maybe only $5 or $10, could bring their unneeded carbs, turbos, drive shafts, engines, etc….to trade, sell, swap etc….sounds like a pretty good deal right? Well, not so much as it turns out. We found with the test group that there are a couple of issues:

First off, between the Dodge and Chevy guys who were offering stuff for sale or trade, the insults got so intense regarding why they would be getting rid of used parts, we had to hire extra security just to maintain order.

Second, apparently the test group decided that “Flea Market and Swap Meet” meant,,,for a small fee you can come bring your broken drive shafts, blown engines, destroyed chasis’, cracked pistons,,,etc,,,and just leave them.

We haven’t kicked that one off the drawing board completely, but we are working on it.

Finally, we really feel strongly about recycling and we have a few items on the drawing board waiting for test groups to see how popular they may be with a larger audience, please feel free to weigh in on your feelings if any of the items below are something you feel we should lend the Hybrid Redneck brand to:

We are a little concerened about John Deere and
any patent issues, but it is part Easy Rider, part
“Get Off My Lawn”,,,cool, but practical.

This idea works not just for deer hunting, but
it is equally efficient for duck and turkey hunting.
I mean, hey, apparently turkey’s think they are
supposed to fly into windshields every now and then,
so this should be extremely effective.

Please feel free to share any thoughts you have on these items we have in development, and also any of your own that we may not have thought of. At Hybrid Redneck we are of the opinion that the more eyes we have on an idea, the better,,,well that is unless Wade is involved and he just doesn’t make much sense most of the time anyway.

Remember,,,we are one short week away,,,time is a wasting,,,make sure you have your plans in place to attend the 5th Anniversary Churning Dirt Nationals, in Richland Center, WI.

Event Recap of Tri State Pullers in St Charles, MN July 12

St. Charles, MN 7-12 Tri State Website
This was my first time announcing or attending the Winona County Fair in St. Charles. Nice size pit area, easy access to the pits, nice seating and a good pulling track.

First Class up was the V8 Mod Class with 4 in the Class Jim McDonald took the win, and that was the first time Jeff Fortney and his Dirt Devil had been beat in the first hook all year.

Second class up was the 9500 Pro Farm, I think we had 10 in the class. This is basically Jeremy Ploetz’s hometown pull with is John Deere called the Big One, so he had lots of fans cheering for him and I believe he finished second at 328, Mike Rynes and his never enuff tractor took the win at 332. It is always nice to see some different tractors come hook, Lange has JD 8110 that pulled and a few other tractors that I hadn’t seen in a while, John Eness and his Johny’s Cash needs more cash, he had a couple tough hooks to the sled, and John Udultch made his first appearance this year with his 1206 and believe was in the top 5 in this class, the former grease monkey tractor of pichlers.

Then we pulled the 4×4 SS Trucks, think we had 5 in the class. Amy Brogley got the win, but the highlight of the night was Tom Norby of Canton, MN let his grandson Collin Bennet drive his truck for the first time, and I believe he got second place. We all know how much family is involved in this sport, this sport has helped kept my dad and I best friends all these years, it was pretty sweet watching Tom talk to him on the starting line, ok enuf mushy stuff. Good tight class, all the trucks made nice passes, Stranglehold ran hard, and the first time this year the Nasty Habit of Russ Breezer was out with Tri State.

Next up were the 2wd Mod Trucks, debuting new motors in Jim Flynn’s Bad Bowtie, I was told he has Rod Brogley’s 2nd motor in the Bad Bowtie, and the Non Prophet of Lonnie Thill and his back up motor in as well. Well the magic worked for Jim Flynn getting his first win of the year with an impressive 309 ft hook.

Super Farms were next-10 in the class again nice to see some new tractors that I don’t get to see all the time, I believe the current points leader in tri state Dennis Schaller and the Sugar Bush finished second or third, I know that Mike Wegner and the Power Up had the lead for a while as well, good straight pass for the JD 7710 and Allan Cook won with his IH 5488 called Black Thunder on the last hook in the class. Really tight class, top 6 tractors were all within 7 feet of each other.

We only had one tractor for the Super/Pro class, so Matt Blasberg with his IH 3688 made a nice pass with his Lim Pro.

Second time thru-Dirt Devil came out on top in the V8 Mod Class, Jeff Kelchen and the Corn Burner took the 2wd win, Daniel Lange with his Black Gold JD Super Farm beat Dennis Jakobi and his Black Stallion II by a few feet to get the win, I believe Dreamin Green of Jungworth was third. John Udulutch won the Pro Farm and Jodie Brogley won the 4×4 SS Hook with the Gearin UP truck. Nice Place, Nice Pull.

Up Coming Hooks for Tri-State Friday July 13th in Decorah, IA 6pm Start time.

The atta boy of the night goes to Gene Simons of Minnesota, he has a pro farm called too hot too farm 1066, had truck problems on the way there and he got towed to the pull, he made it in time for the second hook of the Pro Farm, and he made a really nice pass in Super Farm class, at 281 and the winner was at 308, so he made a good pass with his 466.

I will be announcing in Darlington for Badger State Sat July 14th at Noon and then again for the evening session which I believe starts at 630pm, but check the schedule. Darlington is having Illinois Diesel Trucks, 2 Badger State classes and some farm classes during the day starting at noon, and then all the big tractor classes sat night.BSTP Website

A little history into Camel Racing and the Richland County Camel Racing Association.

As final proof that given a dirt track, some idle time, and a need, the Richland County Camel Racing Society has gained popularity. Yes, I said the Richland County Camel Racing Society, (RCCRS).  The RCCRS was born out of a couple of efforts, the first was from the Richland County Harness Go Fast or Go Home Association as they were faced with a need to have a more firm, and better compacted, race track for their horses to utilize. Previous to the RCCRS starting up the harness racers would struggle with a very soft and squishy track that caused some serious issues for the horses. However, now that there is the RCCRS that races in the late winter/early spring of the year, when the harness racers get to the track in late spring/summer the track is already in midseason form.

The second effort that formed the RCCRS was to just cure a little boredom. If you aren’t familiar with Wisconsin there is that time frame from, about mid-February when the Packers typically have sewn up another Super Bowl Championship-until softball and baseball can actually be played outside, that the weather is just unpredictable and it is too warm to snowmobile and not quite warm enough to ride motorcycles.

However, in the past few years demand has increased and now camel racing has changed from that dirty little secret that you used to wake up in the wee hours of the morning just to get a peek at on the internet, without anyone else noticing, to a full-blown, honest to goodness race during the prime time of Churning Dirt Nationals.

So what exactly is the Richland County Camel Racing Society? Well the RCCRS is exactly what it sounds like. It is just some good ‘old Richland County residents, with proper training of course, that race camels at the Richland County Fairgrounds. Just like on horses, the camels are suited with custom fit saddles and blankets made out of the lightest Richland County weasel hair to provide the best aerodynamic flow possible. Many of the same rules apply to camel racing that are utilized in horse racing. However, there are some strict exceptions:

  • Camels must be treated with extreme care, many are rescue camels from work camps in the Sahara and have been brought to Richland County to relax and do what they love to do best, race.
  • There are routine blood tests conducted to make sure both the camels, and (more importantly) the jockeys, are not utilizing performance enhancing or hampering drugs.
  • Since there is a huge underground child kidnapping ring that exists in the Middle East in which children are routinely taken from their families based on their future ability to be great camel jockies, only Wisconsin residents are allowed to ride the camels in the races. (This rule was put in place just recently when two jockies were uncovered to actually be ringers smuggled in from the United Arab Emirates for an extra edge to win the purse at a race. See, this activity comes more natural to residents of Middle Eastern and African countries than some big stocky Wisconites that are used to riding motorcycles and snowmobiles.)

There will be much news coming in the future regarding the RCCRS Society such as:

  • The new rent-a-camel program in which those who want to get involved, but are concerned about the high initial investment in camel racing can get a taste of it at a more affordable initial cost by just renting for a short time.
  • The new marketing campaign, “One hump or two, my camel is faster than you!”.
  • A possible harness association that will also race camels. this is still undergoing some development, so after the kinks are worked out, and the lead developer gets back out of the hospital after an incident during a recent test, we are sure there will be more news to report.

Please don’t forget to check out the RCCRA website at:http://www.hybridredneck.com/categories/Richland-County-Camel-Racing-Association/

Till next time,,,make sure to keep your goggles clean, and your mouth closed.
